NEW BUILDING STANDARD (NBS) RATINGS

Seismic ratings for buildings are given as a % of the New Building Standard (NBS). The NBS is the rating given to a building as a whole to indicate its seismic standard (or the ability to withstand an earthquake).

It is important to know the NBS rating of your building for a number of reasons;
  1. A number of tenants will not occupy buildings below a certain NBS rating due to corporate standards and;
  2. If you intend to sell your building, prospective purchasers will want to know the NBS rating, as apart from the concerns of some tenants banks may not be willing to provide finance for the purchase of a building with a low NBS rating while insurance could also be an issue
